23 West Main in downtown Bozeman has housed an arcade, a jewelry store, a restaurant and in 1982, August 12 exactly, the birth of The Bent Lens. It’s reputation has been one of exclusivity in offering eyewear to our city and valley. 26 years later the image and reputation has reached grand heights and excels in it’s fashion sense and customer service as well as product knowledge.
A remodel of the interior in 2004 created an even more progressive boutique environment. Stephanie Sandston of Shack Up Design, together with Susan created a team of design experts. Custom dispensing tables were created using a mixture of metal and paper stone and natural wood. A retail counter using re-claimed materials, including old barn wood from Susan Brownell’s family ranch. It is a hand-crafted beautiful piece of furniture. The work area was designed around stream-line work counters with the same metal and natural wood accents of the dispensing tables which creates an efficient and streamline feel in the store. The frame boards and placement of the dispensing tables embraces the “long alley” construction of the space. Overall, the re-design took The Bent Lens to a new level.
